What the Filipino is like:Beliefs and Traditions in Selected Filipino Plays
The Filipino people is rich in customs and traditions. Many of these are in connection with their family life such as DATING, MARRIAGE and BURIAL, RELIGIOUS and many more. Here are the Different Traditions and beliefs in selected Filipino plays. The selected Filipino plays are World is an Apple, Sepang Loca, Three Rats, Sabina and Newyorker in Tondo.
In the play Three Rats by Wilfredo Ma. Guerrero, it is very obvious that Filipino people are very sentimental. Sabina one of the character in the story tries to keep the cup that Adrian had given to them during their wedding because of the sentimental value. If someone will give us something then we try to take good care of it and even though that thing is already worn-out, old and damaged still we keep it because that someone who gave us that thing is important and it served us one of our memories with them.
Sabina is one of the famous play in Philippine Literature and it tells about a lady who is really in love with a guy and she will do everything when it comes to love. Some of us Filipino people tend to be blinded by the reality, because we don't want to get hurt and sometimes we cannot accept the reality and the truth. That 's what happen to Sabina in the play, she even dis obey her family because of love.
The Newyorker in Tondo by Marcelino Agana Jr., this is one of the interesting Filipino Play I read. It speaks about a girl who experienced to live in New York for almost a year and when she came back to Tondo in Philippines she became a different woman and she want everything around her to be like in New York. There are really Filipino who tend to imitate the ways of other people abroad, their culture, activities and somehow how they speak, the intonation, diction and etc. As they say Filipino's are great imitators,but I guess not all.
All of the traditions, culture and belief's that we have, that makes us truly A Filipino-Unique in our own ways. Proud to be PINOY!
In the play World is an Apple by Alberto Florentino, Mario's family happens to be in the lower bracket of society, so he don't have the power to oppose with the decision of his boss in firing him out of his work. And in this we say that Filipino people would do everything for his/her family, especially when it comes to the children needs, they are very sensitive when their child crave for something .There is also a negative side in the story which is doing something wrong just to earn money just like what Pablo is doing.
In the Play Sepang loca which was written by Amelia Bonifacio, we Filipino's have different belief's on how to get pregnant. And one of the example of it is through rituals like dancing. Others example of belief's in getting pregnant is through worshiping, and devoting to idles.In the play Three Rats by Wilfredo Ma.
